What this tool does

The Image Alt Text Checker scans any live page and audits every image on it: how many have alt text, how many carry an empty alt attribute (fine for decorative images), and exactly which ones are missing alt text entirely — listed by URL so you can fix them one by one. For the missing ones, the tool goes a step further and suggests descriptive alt text generated from each image's filename and the page context.

Alt text serves three masters at once. Accessibility: screen reader users hear the alt text, and a missing attribute means the image simply doesn't exist for them. SEO: alt text is a ranking factor for image search — a meaningful traffic source in many niches — and gives Google context about your page's content. Resilience: when images fail to load, alt text is what renders in their place.

Good alt text describes what's in the image, specifically and concisely — 'barista pouring latte art in a ceramic cup', not 'image' or a keyword pile. Run your key pages through the checker, patch the gaps with the suggestions as a starting point, and make alt text part of your publishing checklist. SirWritesALot's editor prompts for it on every image you add.
