One look tells you whether demand is steady, seasonal, growing, or quietly dying — context that a single average-volume number completely hides.

Seasonality changes what a keyword is worth and when to target it. 'Tax filing software' does the bulk of a year's searching between January and April; 'costume ideas' lives in October. Publishing a seasonal article at its demand peak means competing when everyone's watching and ranking after the wave has passed — the standard play is to publish two to three months ahead so the page has time to accumulate rankings before the surge. Trend direction matters just as much: flat average volume can conceal a keyword growing 20% quarter over quarter, or one bleeding out.
